Editorial Assistant - Editorial

We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to join our award-winning editorial team at The Praetorian Group, which operates the leading news and information websites for U.S. first responders. The position is with our FireRescue1.com and EMS1.com websites, which deliver news, commentary, video and training content to firefighters and medics. 

The ideal candidate is an aggressive self starter with editorial experience who can learn quickly and help us grow our high quality base of content. Key qualifications include an exceptional attention to detail; ability to edit quickly and thoroughly; a technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn new applications; the ability to write high quality content; and an interest in learning about public safety professionals and their content needs. The candidate should have a good knowledge of HTML; an online media background is a plus. We want someone who is creative, organized, hardworking and, well, fun – all important tenets of our team. Skill with Photoshopping coworkers heads is also an advantage.

Qualifications:

* A bachelor's degree in Journalism
* Work experience in an editorial function (online experience preferred)
* An editorial eye and exceptional attention to detail
* Knowledge of AP Style, including headline and caption writing
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Strong skills in coordination and scheduling
* Strong writing ability
* Very good computer/technical skills
* A good knowledge of HTML

Job Responsibilities:

* Post daily news and industry announcements
* Find and format graphics, including news photos
* Work closely with Editor to deliver content in creative ways
* Engage user community in a variety of ways, including social media
* Interact with experts from the public safety community to increase content base
* Regular writing of news and features
* Closely monitor news and current events relevant to the various public safety markets
