PoliceOne.com Partners With 5.11 Tactical To Produce 5.11 Challenge

San Francisco, CA - November 30, 2003 - PoliceOne.com, the one complete online resource for Law Enforcement, today announced a partnership with 5.11 Tactical to produce the 5.11 Challenge, the first-ever worldwide Law Enforcement skills competition.

"We are thrilled to be a part of the 5.11 Challenge," said Alexander Ford, CEO of PoliceOne.com. "There are significant barriers to cooperation and information sharing across Law Enforcement within the U.S. and internationally. The 5.11 Challenge will provide law enforcement agencies worldwide with a common point of interest, which will help bridge the gap between Law Enforcement officers from across the nation and around the world. PoliceOne’s involvement in the 5.11 Challenge underscores our dedication to facilitating communication and community among Law Enforcement officers."

The Challenge

Beginning in January 2004, the 5.11 Challenge will select teams, consisting of two officers who have registered together, chosen by random drawing to compete in shooting skills contests. The 32 selected teams will be flown, all expenses paid, to a Five Star lodge on Montana’s famous Bighorn River to compete in the 5.11 Challenge. Throughout July and August, four teams will compete per week in the Shooting Skills portion of the contest, consisting of Single Action handgun targets, Handgun and Rifle range targets, and Trap clays. Teams will be scored on speed and accuracy by National Rifle Association officials. The three top performing teams will be invited to return the week of September 10 for the contest Grand Finale. Along with encouraging friendly competition, the 5.11 Challenge aims to build community and strengthen the common bond between officers from all over the world. In support of this mission, PoliceOne.com has offered free access to PoliceOne.com and the PoliceOne.com Newsletter for all Challenge registrants.

"The shooting competition is the action focus of the events, but the 5.11 Challenge is designed to foster camaraderie and communication among law enforcement officers," said Dan Costa CEO of 5.11 Tactical Series. "We want to bring officers together from different departments and agencies and give them a chance to share ideas and experiences about the rapidly changing world of public safety."

PoliceOne will enable officers to stay abreast of 5.11 Challenge activities by providing full Challenge news coverage and updates on PoliceOne.com and its tri-weekly newsletters. In addition, officers can discuss the Challenge and other law enforcement topics on the secure PoliceOne.com forums and chat rooms.

To register for the 5.11 Challenge, sworn law enforcement officers can log on to the secure 5.11 Challenge registration page to submit their information in a completely confidential, secure setting. Following registration, officers will receive a confirmation notice that includes a unique user name and password to ensure that they have access to all Challenge-related news and information on PoliceOne.com.
